Hydrotherapy

Adaptive Pediatric Aquatic Physiotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses water and its resistance to enhance the physical capabilities of children with special needs. The therapy takes place in a pool, where the water’s buoyancy reduces the body weight by 90%, allowing children to move freely without undue stress on their musculoskeletal system. Walking in water provides more resistance than on land, offering the advantage of intense exercises in a soothing environment.

This therapy is beneficial for children with various conditions, including Autism, Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Orthopaedic disorders, Spina bifida, Pain, Muscular dystrophy, Developmental delay, GBS, and Speech delay,

Aquatic therapy offers numerous benefits such as improved muscle tone, increased core strength, enhanced circulation, improved cardiovascular functioning, increased flexibility and endurance, extended range of motion, reduced muscle spasticity, elevated metabolism, reduced sleep disturbances, relieved joint stress, increased stability, decreased pain and discomfort, and sensory regulation

Psychologically, it can improve self-esteem, empower the child, increase confidence, enhance quality of life, encourage relaxation, provide comfort, and increase socialization

There is no specific age or point in a child’s therapy that dictates when or if a child would benefit from aquatic therapy. A child does not need to know how to swim to participate in an aquatic therapy program. Specific exercises and provisions are made based on the child’s age, physical condition, and cognitive abilities to ensure a safe and effective therapy environment
